Foreign Language Course Descriptions
Spanish I
This is a basic course in beginning Spanish. Communication will be the basic focus through extensive oral and written practice. Various activities will be used to introduce grammar points and vocabulary. Songs, information on food, education, recreation, culture and life of the Spanish population in the United States will be taught. A variety of cultural activities are provided to enhance understanding of different traditions and customs.
French I
This is a basic course in beginning French. The basic focus at this level is the development of a working vocabulary and learning the basic grammar concepts such as regular and irregular verb conjugation, adjective agreement and placement and sentence formation. Extensive oral and written practice is used. Cultural units on Paris, Christmas, food, education and recreation are taught.
German I
This is a basic course in beginning German. The main focus will be grammar and vocabulary through extensive written, oral and speaking practice. Games will be used to reinforce grammar points and vocabulary. German songs, aspects of German culture, education, pastimes, family, weather, and information on foods will also be taught.
Latin I
This beginning Latin course gives students much experience in reading simple Latin stories, developing a vocabulary of about 500 words and a knowledge of Roman culture. Additionally, since so many English words are derived from Latin, much emphasis is placed on the linking of Latin to English words.
