Welcome to PBS - Being kind to others is not just a concept taught at the elementary level. The teachers at RMS continually encourage students to show kindness to others. Opening doors for people, helping someone pick up their books, or assisting a teacher are all ways to show kindness. One way to encourage kindness at home is to be an example. Show your teen that adults are kind in many ways. Giving away your spot in line at the grocery store or showing kindness while driving are great ways to set an example. One excellent way to show kindness is simply the words we say about others. Try to think the best of people and avoid gossip, downgrading, or criticizing. Students who grow up with critical parents become critical themselves. Every day teens are verbally bashed on social networking sites. Some of these comments are extremely cruel. While accusations or comments may be true, they are not always kind. As the old adage goes, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Thank you for all you do to teach these young adults how to live in harmony with one another.
The Rolla Middle School Positive Behavior Support Program includes - Character education words (monthly), Principal's 100 rewards, positive behavior expectations for the school, keeps teachers informed on referrals, as well as positive strategies to keep our school a safe and healthy environment for our students.
The Foundation of PBS - Students learn appropriate behavior in the same way they learn to read - through instruction, practice, feedback, and encouragement.
What is PBS? - PBS is a general term that refers to the application of an applied science that uses proactive and effective educational methods, behavioral interventions, environmental redesign and systems changes methods to support individuals who exhibit disruptive and/or dangerous behaviors in schools, work, social, community, and family settings (Carr et al., 2002; Horner et al., 1990).
