Welcome to Early Childhood Special Education
I would like to welcome you to the early childhood special education program. We currently have three classrooms, Mrs. Ceplina, Mrs. Hrovat and I are the classroom teachers. You are welcome to contact any of us with your initial questions prior to your child attending school.
Exciting News!!
I am expecting a new addition to my family due in June. Your children may or may not be telling you, and you may or may not have heard. My husband and I are really excited about our first baby. That said, your children have been noticing many changes in the classroom. After Spring Break, I will not be able to pick up any of the children over 20 pounds, which is pretty much most of them. I have been picking them up less now, and have been telling them that I can hold them if I am sitting down because they are such big kids. They like this better then me telling them that I can't pick them up. I have also been leaving to go to the doctor in the afternoons once or twice a month. I am hopeful that everything is going to be fine, and I will be able to finish out the end of the year. If I do miss, I know that the children will be in great hands with Ms. Sarah, and Ms. Kathy.

Procedure for enrolling your child in the ECSE program
To enroll your child in the Early Childhood Special Education program you need to contact the school at 573-458-0190. The Early Childhood Special Education program is housed at Wyman Elementary, 402 Lanning Lane and serves all of the students in the Rolla school district.
If your child has already been receiving services through another district, you may bring in their current diagnostic report and IEP. If you do not have copies of the diagnostic report or IEP, you may sign a release of information through our district and records can be obtained.
If your child has been in First Steps then a transition meeting will be held 6 months prior to your child's third birthday between the school district, First Step representative and yourself. Prior to your child turning 3, the school district will contact you to schedule appointments to determine your child's current abilities and qualifications for services offered through the ECSE program.
Unsure if you child needs special education services? To determine if your child meets the eligibility criteria for services offered through the ECSE program, we request that you contact the school. You will then be instructed to either call Parents As Teachers 458-0100 to have your child screened at one of their monthly screenings or an appointment will be made with the ECSE teacher & speech therapists to start the evaluation process.
Children may enroll at any time during the regular school year.

What is an IEP?
If your child qualifies for Speech/Language Therapy, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will be written and reviewed with his/her parent. This document outlines:
(1) your child's current level of functioning,
(2) the goals for therapy and how progress will be measured,
(3) how progress will be reported to his/her parent,
(4) the number of minutes of therapy provided per week or per month,
(5) the options for services,
(5) the setting in which the therapy will take place.
The Individualized Educational Plan will be reviewed and renewed on an annual basis if it is determined that your child is still in need of services. This review/renewal will take place during a face-to-face meeting with all teachers who work with your child and a school district representative.
