What is the Wyman Tech Ninja Dojo?

The Tech Ninja Dojo is an after school program organized by Mr. Wright. A small group of invited "Mini Tech Ninjas" continue the learning done during the school day through technology rich projects.

Projects

Mission 1: Create a digital story about things you like about your school.

Tools:

  • Titan Pad, a collaborative writing tool to brainstorm and generate ideas.
  • Digital cameras to get pictures of the things we love.
  • PowerPoint to put all of our pictures with text and then generate .jpg images.
  • Animoto to put the whole thing together. (See Mr. Wright for login.)

See our projects here.

Mission 2: Create a digital poster about yourself.

Tools:

  • Glogster (See Mr. Wright for login.) Please make sure your are on EDU Glogster not Glogster.

Mission 3: Create an Interactive Christmas ABC book for our Kindergarten Friends.

  • Use Titan Pad to brainstorm the ABCs
  • Create illustrations for each letter using either Tux Paint or ABC Ya Paint.
  • Put text and illustrations together in PowerPoint. Add next page buttons and directions.
  • Using Audacity and a USB mic to record the text.
  • Link the audio in the PowerPoint.
  • Convert the PowerPoint to Flash using iSpring Free.
  • Post and share.

Mission 4: Video Book Talks

Tools:

  • Using My Big Campus Documents, write a short book talk in the tradition of Reading Rainbow. (Not familiar with a Reading Rainbow book talk? Watch this video starting at 20 minutes and 40 seconds to see some examples.)
  • Then with a digital camcorder, record students against a makeshift green screen reciting their book talk. (Read more about green screens here.)
  • Mr. Wright will then edit the video together and upload them to the Internet.
  • Next, a QR Code will be placed in the cover of the book in the library, so it can be scanned and the video can easily be viewed. (Want to know more about QR Codes? Read up on them here.)
